SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DETAILS

The University of Jos and the National Film Institute (NFI), Jos hereby invites applications from qualified African and Nigerian students for the 2022 Goethe University, Frankfurt/DAAD Scholarship Programme.

The Master Degree Programme in Film Culture and Archival Studies is a collaborative master jointly offered by Nigerian Institutions (University of Jos, National Film Institute, Jos/Nigerian Film Corporation, Jos & Lagos Film Society) and German Institutions (Goethe University, Frankfurt, Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art, Berlin, Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum). The programme aims to enhance learning opportunities among Nigerians and Africans as a whole, specifically in the area of archiving studies and practices, by providing to the successful applicant to pursue the postgraduate (Master) degree programme.

Objective

To train students that will become experts and global leaders in the field of Film Culture and Archival Studies; Restoration, Digitization, Preservation, Codification, Classification of creative works and audiovisual heritage as well as other related human endeavors. This scholarship programme offers the applicant opportunity to continue his/her academic education in Germany for 6 months of purely academic activities and extra 5 weeks for a German language course.

Eligibility

• Eligible students must be African currently studying M.A Film Culture and Archiving Studies with the National Film Institute/the University of Jos.

• The candidate must have completed the registration process for the M.A programme.

• The student has proven excellent academic achievements records.

• Not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship (National or International)

• Must have the interest and ability to learn the German language

• A one-page good letter of motivation, not more than 500 words on WHY He/ She be giving a scholarship.

• Excellent overview of proposal presentation on intending area of final year dissertation /Report, not more than 5 pages with relevant references/works cited

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship value is a total sum of €7,316 (Seven Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixteen euro) only. The scholarship is for the 2022 academic session. The scholarship entails a grant to cover for:

• Mobility (International flights etc)

• A monthly residence (Accommodation and living costs in Frankfurt

• A grant to attend a 1-month support per person for German language course at Frankfurt (Offer by any online language provider of choice)

• A fee to support attending an online German language course (self - organized provider of choice)

Selection

There will be an independent selection committee consisting of representatives of various partnering institutions to review the submitted applications.

Selection criteria

Academic qualification (documented by: relevant certificates, previous awards, curriculum vitae, Birth certificate, citizenship certificate, evidence of good semester academic performance assessment in the programme, good letter of motivation with demonstrable knowledge of the course, proposal presentation on intending area of final year dissertation /Report, not more than 5 pages with relevant references/works cited, letter of reference from 3 referees, 1 from former institution, Federal Government official and a community leader).
