Prof. Pomak Frank Tengya
Rector, National Film Institution (NFI), Jos.
Pomak Frank Tengya was born on the 20th of April 1979 in Mangu Plateau State. He holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts (2002) and an M.A. in Dramatic Literature (2009) both from the University of Jos, Nigeria. He also holds a PhD in Theatre and Film Studies from Kenyatta University Nairobi Kenya (2016). He started his career in the academia as graduate assistant at University of Jos in November 2005, where he rose through the academic ranks. By 2011 he left for PhD studies at Kenyatta University Nairobi. After his PhD studies in 2016 he was retained as a Lecturer by Kenyatta University Nairobi where he eventually became the Chairman (HOD) of the Department. In late 2018, he came back to Nigeria and helped established the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the Taraba State University Jalingo. From October 2020 to October 2024, he served as the Pioneer Director of International Collaborations and Linkages of Taraba State University. Having satisfied all the procedures and processes for promotion within the University ecosystem, in October 2024 the Governing Council and Senate of the Taraba State University Jalingo pronounced him Professor of Comparative Theatre and Film Studies. He has supervised and graduated students at Undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Nigeria and Kenya. He has authored three books and has several articles in reputable Journals. He was recently appointed the Substantive Rector of Nigeria’s Pioneer National Film Institute (NFI) Jos Plateau State.
